My name is Lee. I am a Capetonian. I am a wife and a mom. I currently work in administration but I have a PhD in Chemistry (don’t get me started). I will admit that I have more conservative leanings on the political scale as the definition of the terms typically used have changed so significantly in the past few years. Liberal today doesn’t seem to be the same as liberal 20 years ago. I am a Christian (I believe I was created by God and saved by Jesus Christ).

I have opinions that seem to go more and more against the mainstream school of thought. I don’t necessarily believe that my views are more correct than others, points of view are subjective and thus very personal. People should be able to live and let live. But life is not as straight forward as that. Extremes are used to justify the rejection of moderation. For example abortion. It is seen as a violation of a woman’s rights to deny her access to abortion. “What about rape victims or a serious medical condition, etc?” These are unfortunate but rare situations compared to the current overuse of abortion to kill a perfectly healthy baby, who has unlimited potential while growing in the womb. As things are right now I would personally not abort a pregnancy of my own nor advise anyone to do so, but I will forgive and accept any person who has aborted a pregnancy. There is more nuance involved in all such moral issues which we, as humans, need to take into consideration.

This was not supposed to be a post about abortion so lets move on.

Another thing that puts a bit of spanner in the think tank is the lack of mindfulness in the world. This was a concept I only became consciously aware of in the last 10 years — not something I am particularly proud of but it is what it is. Mindfulness is such a key behavioural aspect for harmonious human co-existence that it should be taught in school! Alas, most of us, myself included, are terribly selfish. This, of course, makes it very difficult to find mutual ground and compromise with anyone who does not agree with our own superior viewpoints.

I think perhaps that the conclusion of this post is that there will be readers that agree with what I may have to say and others that will not. That’s cool. My opinion isn’t (and should not be) more superior to yours, but perhaps we could get each other thinking, being mindful of the others position.

Whatever I post is my opinion and I will try to support my ideas with facts.

K, bye.
